Elysium Gig 23 Feb 2005

We opened for Rabbi, the latest singing-songwriting sensation. The setlist was:
Little Ojas
High and Lonesome
Kabeera
Brothers Jam
Ujala Baaz
Freedom
Lay Your Burden Down

The lineup was:
Anoop
Koko
Neeraj - lead vocals
Sid
Varun.

The show was outdoors, so completely different sound from the cosy indoor sound we've been used to so far. Played a decent set, though not magical, like the last one.

Sankara Gig Dates

So it seems we're playing the following gigs:
Wed 23 Feb @ Elysium, North Main Road, Koregaon Park - we're opening for Rabbi, so you get to see atleast one great band that night, depending on who you are :-)
Sun 27th Feb at Vaishwik Art Environment, Aundh - this is technically not a Sankara gig, but the same free-flowing improvisation can be enjoyed here in an acoustic environment, the best kind of gig. The lineup will depend on whoever shows up that day.

Live at Elysium Sun 13-Feb-2005

The gig was among the better ones we've played, partly due to the almost total lack of an audience. Freed from the constraints of an audience and with a well balanced stage sound, we went on to have the most fun we've had at a concert. The lineup was:
Anoop
Koko
Kuldeep
Neeraj (second vocals)
Sid
Varun

The setlist was:
Ishani (when we saw the size of the audience, we knew we were pretty much free to play what we wanted, and so there was an orgy of tranceadelia on this song which lasted 23 minutes. This pretty much set the tone for the evening.)
High and Lonesome
Brothers Jam
Kabeera
John Jam
Ujala Baaz
Little Ojas - this was the song where this real drunk guy came in and started grooving like mad to the music. He had himself a great time. I think the band might have acquired a fan.
Lucky 2 B Diff'rent
One more song, I forget which.

The evening was opened by this Bombay band called Left (no known website) who surprisingly, turned out to be another band in the jam mould. Bombayites would do well to look out for this band.

Unfortunately, we couldn't tape this show either. Snaps from the unofficial photographer are expected soon.

NJJBTB Gig

Just got back from a gig at Not Just Jazz By The Bay.
The lineup was:
Amol - Djembe, Vocals
Anoop - Acoustic guitar, Vocals
Jayant - Guitar (SoloEtte nylon string electric)
Koko - Guitar (electric)
Kuldeep - Vocals
Sid - Bass
Varun - Drums

Big band! I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Jayant played some truly superb lines.
The setlist was:
Set 1
A Jerry Ballad
High and Lonesome (new)
Brothers Jam
Heerna
Little Ojas

Set 2
Kabeera
John Jam
Ujala Baaz
Gallows Pole (or something like it. The electric guitar jam on this was pure pleasure, but it wasn't Gallows Pole any more after that.)
Lucky 2 B Diff'rent
Lay Your Burden Down

Set 3
Django's Jig
Freedom
No Way To Go Away (new)
Ishani

Set 4 (yes, they made us play a fourth set)
Baby Please Don't Go
Some Arbit Jam
Some Other Arbit Jam.

Unfortunately, the recording of the show is completely without the bass guitar, and without sounding immodest, it doesn't work without the bass, so we're not putting the show up for your downloading/listening/hard disk clogging pleasure.

The food at NJJBTB is really prepared with much care so that not even the slightest iota of taste may slip into the food, even by mistake.

If (any of) you (readers) were at the show, please tell us what you think.

Saturday Feb 12 @ Not just jazz By The Bay: E-Square, 132-A University Road, Ganeshkhind, Pune 411 016
Tel: 4044200. 10 pm onwards. We've added two new songs to the setlist so be there, but if for some reason you can't, don't despair.
We're also playing:

Hope to see (all) you (guys) there.
